The film I am most looking forward to in the next few years has found their lead actor. Ernie Cline’s fabulous love letter to the 80’s “Ready Player One” is such a fantastic book, and with Steven Spielberg at the helm, the film looks to be just as good.
It was announced today that Tye Sheridan (Tree of Life, X-Men: Apocalypse) will play the character of Wade Watts, our main protagonist and hero of the OASIS, Parzival.
The story revolves around a young man, Wade Watts, and the world wide encompassing virtual reality world, the OASIS, created by Steve Jobs-Bill Gates type character James Halliday. Adventure in the video game realm traverses cinema, music, and a ton of references to pop culture throughout the 80s and 90s, as well as a ragtag team of adventurers with their sites set on preventing the evil corporation IoI from taking over the OASIS.
Previous casting announcements for the project include Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) as the lead female At3mis/Sammantha Cook, and Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline, Girls) as the head of IoI and baddie, Nolan Sorrento. We’re still waiting to hear about the other Gunters, hunters for the secrets of Halliday’s easter eggs.
We’ll let you know as more information becomes available about this film. Until then, go read “Ready Player One”!
