The Alamo Drafthouse, a place we at Aggressive Comix frequent regularly, is hosting a woman’s only screening of Wonder Woman. Within a matter of hours, the theater in Austin, Texas sold out its first women-only screening Unfortunately, the trolls of the internet have issue with it.
Drafthouse is pulling out all the stops for this screening, promising that everyone participating in this showing will be female and female-identifying… and that includes everyone working behind the scenes:
“Apologies, gentlemen, but we’re embracing our girl power and saying ‘No Guys Allowed’ for one special night at the Alamo Ritz. And when we say ‘Women (and People Who Identify As Women) Only,’ we mean it. Everyone working at this screening — venue staff, projectionist, and culinary team — will be female.”
This has caused uproar where some have promised to boycott the Drafthouse in retaliation, and the movie theater company’s Facebook page and Twitter account are full of cries of “reverse sexism,” “misandry”.
“Have you ever hosted a men’s only showing of any film?” questioned another.
“Very tacky Alamo,” chimed one viewer. “I’m all for equality and having a screening specifically stating it is not inclusive to everyone, is against equality. I’m not saying Alamo did this intentionally, but it is still just wrong.”
Alamo has been responding to complaints on social media.
“Very sorry if you feel excluded,” commented the venue to one viewer. “We thought it might be kinda fun — for one screening — to celebrate a character who’s meant a great deal to women for close to eight decades. Again, truly, truly, truly, truly sorry that we’ve offended you.”
I am a long time Alamo fan and will be even more so for this. What we love about the Alamo is they don’t give a fuck!

I did the math, The movies is to be released on June 1st in all 6 Theaters in Austin, but the 2 “women only screening” are in only one (The ritz) and are scheduled on the 6th of June. on an average of 24 screening per days, spanned over 6 days, that’s a total of 144 screenings but only 2 of these are women only….Nothing is being taken away from men, they’re just like cats, because something is not for them, they want it anyway.
