Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins confirmed this morning via twitter that Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live, Paul) will be playing Cheetah in the upcoming sequel, Wonder Woman 2.

Jenkins is returning for Wonder Woman 2, and co-writing the script with Dave Callaham (The Expendables, Godzilla) and DC Films co-chairman Geoff Johns. Production credits are still up in the air after Zack and Deborah Snyder left DC Films during production of Justice League, and Warner Bros.’ deal with financier RatPac Entertainment coming to an end.

William Moulton Marston created Cheetah in 1943, and she first appeared in Wonder Woman #6.  Numerous versions of Cheetah have appeared in comics since, including the characters Priscilla Rich, Deborah Domaine, Barbara Anne Minerva, and Sebastian Ballesteros. Her abilities reflect the animal she was named after and were give to her by the planet-god Urzkartaga.

Wiig is most well-known for her 6 year run on Saturday Night Live (long live Target Lady!) and playing the lead in Bridesmaids, as well as writing the film. She has also starred in The Skeleton Twins, The Last Man on Earth, and Mother!

Wonder Woman 2 is set to be released November 1, 2019.
