With the resurgence of all things Spider-Man after the unveiling of ol’ Underoos joining Team Iron Man in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, rumors about the 2017 new webhead feature abound.  These rumors usually include but are in no way limited to the cast of villains, in this case, Kraven the Hunter. We’ve had some pretty ok villain choices in the previous FIVE Spider-Man films, yeah, there were FIVE OF THOSE THINGS.  In the three Tobey Maguire ones we had two Green Goblins, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Venom, and a non-mutated Lizard.  In the two Andrew Garfield films, we had The Lizard and Electro.  It’s time for some new (evil) blood. kraven-the-hunter-is-seen-as-one-of-spider-mans-villains 5 PERFECT CHOICES FOR KRAVEN: marton 1.)  Marton Csokas (LOTR, Kingdom of Heaven)  In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Csokas appeared as a male version of Marvel comics character Dr. Ashley Kafka, a weird as hell choice, really.  And completely missing the potential of having this Kiwi (Marton is from New Zealand) play the perfect comic character for him.  We’ve seen the recasting of actors from one franchise to another several times now, Ben Affleck from Daredevil to Batman V Superman, Chris Evans from The Fantastic Four to Captain America, Ryan Reynolds from Green Lantern AND The Wolverine to Deadpool, freaking J.K. Simmons from J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man to now Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming Justice League films.  It.  Is.  Possible.  And it would be WONDERFUL. steve-howey 2.) Steve Howey (Shameless, Stan Helsing, Sons of Anarchy).  Maybe an odd choice to those of you who DON’T watch the American version of Shameless on Showtime, but Howey steals the show sometimes.  You can’t look at him and NOT think of a figure like a werewolf, or any other powerful predator. 1407971917220_wps_2_http_www_details_com_cele 3.) Idris Elba (Pacific Rim, Beasts of No Nation).  True, this would mean a re-writing of the character’s backstory, but this freaking guy NEEDS to be a star in a superhero movie, his role of Hemdall notwithstanding.  Man, I’m just imagining what the new story would be, and I kind of love the possibilities. I would LOVE to see him as a powerful villain, when he gets going with his deep voice, any masked hero would think twice before tangling with him. 5040228-10269958_ori 4.)  Clive Standen (Vikings).  Another example of an actor who should most definitely end up in a superhero franchise somehow, Standen currently plays Rollo Lothbrok on HISTORY’s Vikings, were we more often than not see his character Rollo doing Berserker things at the end of a weapon.  I can TOTALLY see him reclining on a throne of exotic pelts and hunting Spider-Man. pedro pascal 5.)  Pedro Pascal (Ben Hur, Game of Thrones).  Maybe another surprising choice, but I’m pretty open to a redesign of the classic Russian Sergei Kravinoff.  What do we know about the core character of Kraven besides his witch-doctor super strength and his love of hunting? I’m willing to look at the acting chops and film-fighting abilities of the actor here, which is a big thing for me to say.  After the Red Viper’s fabulous spear fight, Pascal is a definate on my “would be perfect” list. Needless to say, we’re a long way out from any cement news on the Sony-Marvel Spider-Man pair up solo film with Max Holland, and we’ll just have to wait to see how well he does in Captain America: Civil War.
